Micah Ministry is a volunteer organization dedicated to helping feed, clothe and provide necessities to persons in need in the Northeast Kansas City area. From modest beginnings in 2002, the operation has grown rapidly and in 2016 served 39,800 meals at Monday evening sit-down dinners provided weekly throughout the year. Clothing, personal items, counseling, medical care, and a sense of community are also provided freely to clients, without regard to religious, racial or cultural background. The program is supported by over 25 churches, organization, schools and businesses, as well as individual donors and volunteers. Monetary donations are gratefully welcomed, and Micah Ministry also accepts seasonal used clothing and shoes (in good condition) for both adults and children, toilet paper and hygiene items, towels, blankets, sleeping bags, and large commercial-size cans of green beans, cream of mushroom soup, tomato sauce and corn (no expired products, please). Items particularly needed are adult underwear (new) and socks (new or like new). Volunteers are also welcome each Monday from 5:15 to 7:00 p.m. to help with the 400 to 600 guests served each Monday evening. Micah Ministry is housed at the Independence Boulevard Christian Church on Independence Avenue, and is a 501.c3 organization under the umbrella of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Greater Kansas City.
